100 Day Challenge week 1

It’s been a week since I started my 100 day challenge and I wish I could write something along the lines of:

Resisting shopping has opened my eyes to the beauty of saving, I am calm and free from a world of consumer pressure....blah blah blah.

However that would be a giant lie.

I’m such a miserable cow. I have realised how much I rely on shopping to pick me up when I'm stressed. I’ve found this week particularly stressful but being unable to things to cheer myself up has turned me in to a little ball of rage. I wish I was joking.

However I don’t want this post to be all negative because some nice things have happened this week too. I was lucky and won a twitter competition for a pair of Linzi shoes which has made this week somewhat brighter!

BUT.. the most amazing thing has happened this week for which I am so grateful. Lots of lovely amazing girls have been wishing me good luck with the 100 days. Real people understand and care – how amazing is that. They don’t think I’m silly, they understand and that is a lovely feeling.

Some of these ladies are joining me in my 100 day no shopping quest and some of them are trying to curb their spending or cut back in other ways!

If you want to join in let me know, I would love to hear from you. Each girl has her own rules as to what is banned for the 100 days!

Thank you so much to everyone who commented and tweeted so far. Like I said I've written down everything I fancy buying and I will be blogging about the list later in the week.

I'm writing this on Tuesday night and tomorrow it is mine and my OH's 4 year anniversary, in the morning we will exchange presents ( I know what I'm getting and I can't wait to show you!) The we are going to the cinema and for a meal.
I'm really excited!

Some people have been asking me questions about what I am allowed to buy and what I’m not so I thought I would try and explain.

I can only by necessities such as food, drink, things for uni plus stamps (to write to my penpals) and batteries for my camera. Also I can buy things like toothpaste but I can’t buy anything I already have, for instance I can’t go to Lush and buy some special shower gel/soap/deodorant because I already have some plus spares at home. Does this make sense? No money on luxury treats either, so no spray tans no nail treatments nothing like that but I'm still doing things like the occasional cinema trip with my OH and if he wants to treat me to the occasional magazine who am I to complain eh?! The only other area of spending is travel but since I can’t stay in be for 100 days I think that’s understandable right?

such a brave thing to do! Lol i totally understand your theory and really applaud you as i couldnt do it.. i think a month of no high street shopping or play.com shopping would suit me..

  3. oooh good luck!!
I am going to do something similar but because of my weight loss I have nothing to wear so need to buy a few things. I think I might limit myself to £50 a month on clothes and not buy any make up, I have everything I need and more. I have about 5 make up boxes! (Did buy the Nicki Minaj lipstick today though...oopsie!)

  4. I think that travel counts as a necessity. I haven't given up paying for petrol - although giving up shopping trips will have a knock-on effect on the cost of petrol over the 100 days!
Thanks for linking to me, I'm preparing my friday favourites post for the week of all the things I would have bought if I hadn't been on a ban! xx

  5. It will be hard, but imagine the feeling of relief and achievement once it's over. I'm sure you will really be able to look back at this and curb your spending as a result. Which of course can only be a good thing if you achieve what you set out to do :)

p.s have a lovely anniversary! xxx

  6. I am so glad other people decided to do this challenge as well. I have been on and off. The only thing I bought this week was tweezers because I have one pair and they stink ~i call necessity on that one. Other than that, I have been doing ok. I hope it get better for you. I have also realized how much I rely on the rush of spending to make me feel better. One week down, we can do this! <3

  7. Rather you than me :) but good luck, I think it will actually get easier as your probably so used to spending without thinking, and once this ban is over you will probably start to think twice about the stuff you 'lived without' and whether you really need it.. OR you will just go completely nuts and buy everything and more haha!
