Accessorised With a Severed Hand

Last night I went to a Halloween party and took the opportunity to dress up. I already had a cave girl costume that was begging to be worn so I went for the whole zombie cave girl look and accessorised with a severed hand.
What do you think?

The costume was from Ebay. I used Snazzaroo face pant and the hand came from good old pound world. Tomorrow I have work and because it's halloween I'm going to dress up as a pumpkin! (Dressed up as a pumpkin last year, click here to see!)  I've even painted little pumpkins on my nails, then i will be carving and pumpkin and spending the night watching scary films.
How are you spending halloween?

Nicki Minaj OPI

I’m not usually one to get particularly excited about something so far before its release especially when I’ve never tried the product. Yes I’ve never tried OPI mostly because I’ve never found anything in the range which thrilled me enough to part with my money for considering MO polishes are much cheaper. This is until i saw THIS POST  on Paperbacks and Postcards , the rainbow glitter is gorgeous and this alone sparked an hour spent browsing OPI collections. Now I’m rather in love with SAVE ME it is part of the Nicki Minaj collection and isn't out until next year. The collection was announced last Wednesday on mypinkfriday.com . Pretty yes? I the mean time i think i will be on the hunt for cheaper alternatives and indulging in some more 85p nail varnish that I blogged about HERE .

Haul: This is the life

I’ve been having a great week in fact its been so good I almost feel shouldn't mention it for fear of jinxing the situation! My grandma is starting to make progress, she has been very ill recently and for a while it seemed as if she was never going to get any better. I seem to be settling in to my MA course and feeling a little better about the workload. I won £50 to spend at Warehouse with #warestyletreats . Good upgrade on my phone and yesterday my OH took me out shopping and then for a meal – great week yes?
I assume it's coincidence but when ever I go sopping n Wigan i always find great bargains and tis time was no exception. It started with a leather belt for £9, great value but nothing shocking right? But then 2 dresses for £13.50 (incld student discount) in Topshop. Oh yes! Even better they are both dresses I have lusted after before!

(This dress says its a ten, its over sized on me so i'm sure the size ten label is a lie.)

(Nails - MO Red and a top coat of Dior Rock topcoat in black.)

I hardly ever wear my hair up but my OH likes it up and seen as he was paying...

Have you found any bargains recently?
Also keep your eyes peeled for a post on some snazzy red shoes I found for £24.99 reduced from £75 - they deserve a separate post.

OOTD:Gothic Lips

Yesterday was spent with my mum, nothing particularly exciting just s pub lunch and a “big” food shop, but I haven’t laughed so much. I don’t know why but we where both is a particularly silly food and when my mum (somehow) managed to walk in to a pram, get mash in her hair, crawl on to a shelf and describe a shockingly straight banana as erect we both found it hilarious. A good day was had by all.

I wore my gorgeous found in the sale couldn’t leave the shop without it DorothyP dress and decided to go a little gothic with the lip colour, I was feeling wild I dont wear lipstick in the day usually. For this I applied my normal red with a small amount of black lip gloss mixed in. (Lipgloss by Rimmel found in good old Poundland.)

Dress – DorothyP/Lipstick- Mac/Blacklipgloss – Rimmel via Poundland/Jacket- Riverisland/Shoes – Topshop/Scraff – charity/Belt- Tesco/ Bag – Topshop years and years ago.
I’ve also been popping in to local cafes and libraries to distribute the Wordpool 2011 newspaper. Wordpool is the name of the Lit festival held in Blackpool. It lasts a full week and during the festival lots of great workshops, craft events and performances happen all over town. I will be meeting Jenn Ashworth who is my favorite author and I can't wait. The newspaper promotes the events and contains lots of work from local writers. (Including me!) 100_8052
What have you been up to? Found and beauty bargains in Poundland? Who's your author of choice?

P.s I alway try to reply to comments if needed, I often reply here or on Twitter ALSO my Giveaway is open till the 31st.

Bargain nail varnish

85p nail varnish, I kid you not. I was on my way home from my boyfriend last week and had some time to spare so I had a nosey in his local market where I found these beauties.
I feel markets are under rated they are full of obscure yet amazing finds normally at barginous prices.

100_8004_picnik
I had a play with them and I’m impressed, the one on the end is a UV polish and has an iridescent finish which is impossible to capture but looks slightly blue in real life. The first one reminds me of a MO polish used to own.
I applied them all focusing on the ends of my nails so the glitter completely covers the tips and “fades out” – hopefully you will understand what I mean in relation to the photo.

Whay do you think not bad for 85p? They had a whole range of shade pearl/glitter/fluro/pastel I can see an 85p addiction in the making.

OOTD: Charity shop chic #3

You might have noticed the distinct lack of haul posts on my blog the past few weeks and this is down to the simple fact that I have no money. By no money I mean very little, I'm talking a budget of £38 before travel and to get to uni and back costs £24 per week. So I’ve said bye bye to expensive coffees and no the go snacks, bye bye to spray tans (have you notice how pale I’m looking these days?) and bye bye to shopping. Basically all my money goes on essentials, saving up for Christmas and the odd charity shop treat I can’t resist but any shops that would stretch my little budget are off limits.
I can’t trust myself to enter the shops without caving in and buying things I can’t but trust me if I do I will blog about it.
I don’t want to litter my blog with tales of financial woe or my spiral in to debt realisticly i dont have it too bad and my mum and OH do treat me well so that is all I will say on the matter. I just wanted to explain why my haul posts have gone from huge posts with many, many items of clothing to the odd few items here and there.

Today I have a long day at uni I’m talking 12 hours if you include travel (I’m typing this up during a gap in lessons) and I am wearing my lovely scarf I bought from work.
[During my last shift someone donated a huge inflatable sumo suit which I just had to try on!]

My Street Chic:My Home Town

http://www.mystreetchic.com/  is a new online fashion community and I am the My Street Chica for the Blackpool area I'll be covering local fashion events, writing content and doing other exciting things for the site. As you have probably realised I have a serious amount of Blackpool pride so I jumped at the chance of getting Blackpool some recognition.
Last week I went on my first glam spy mission (taking street style photos) and despite the horrible weather, raining sideways and to windy for a brolly I managed to find some great girls.

Different areas are being added all the time and the site is full of competitions, fashion inspiration and a great forum so I encourage you all to join.

Floral Nail Art

As part of my GIVEAWAY I’ve been asking what you would like to see more of on my blog. I’m always interested to find out what people would like to see more of. One thing that people have asked for is nail art.

I paint my nails about twice a week. Leopard print is a favourite because its quick and easy and always looks decent. I also love a bit of Konad stamping for a sleek professional look and soon I’m going to be trying some Halloween nails; I’m thinking pumpkins and cobwebs maybe some blood and I will defiantly be giving my Halloween themed MB plate a try.
All the spooky-ness aside this week I tried floral nails using Models own Beths Blue and Lilys pink as the base.
100_7941
Next a blobbed ( I hate that word) the alternate colour on the nail in a roughly round- ish shape. For the leaves I used the green nail art pen I got as part of a super cheap bundle I got on ebay which I blogged about  HERE
100_7948
100_7949

Then I used a lighter shade to highlight petals, Sounds a lot fancier than it is, it really means I do a sort of spiral over the blob, again using the Ebay nail art pens.
100_7952100_7953
I love this effect and I hope showing you in stages encourages you to give it a go. I think I liked the colours I use on THIS POST a little bit more. what do you think?
Will you be giving floral nail art a go?
Ps.

Yesterday was I pretty bad day by all accounts full of technology fails, cancelled plans and scary lessons. My confidence in my work is slowly dwindling honestly this MA is a hundred times harder than I ever anticipated. However my day was significantly brightened by a comment from the lovely laura of Bentleybicycles who had found the orginal knitting pattern for my charity shop jumper. ( you can see the pattern HERE and my jumper HERE.) The pattern is from the 80’s so if the jumper was made around that time it could be older than me. Then this morning I received a parcel from ROSIE full of goodies I won in her blog giveaway. So a HUGE thank you to Rosie for making my friday fabulous.

OOTD: Charity shop chic #2

A few of you have been asking about my voluntary work at the Red Cross charity shop. I started a few weeks ago and although I only have time to work once or twice a week I really encourage anyone to give it a go. I have a feeling I’ve struck charity shop gold with my store because everybody is so nice the shop seems to be full of pretty things. We are already making plans to set up a grotto to raise money during the Christmas market; I’m talking about holly nail art and dressing up as an elf. I couldn’t be more excited. The only problem seems to be my inability to leave to store without buying something.  Last week I bought the cutest pillow case with a polka dot frill and a Cath kidston-esque print. This week’s treasure was a hand knitted jumper I’ve named it my “granny jumper”.

Today has been spent tidying my tip of a bedroom, doing some work for my internship, annotating work for my MA and taking some street style photos for MyStreetChic.

Taking photos took up most of my morning and after an hour I totally gave up trying to control my brolly in the wind so by the time I got home I was soaked to my skin. So after drying off I jumper in to my granny jumper and woolly hat, paired with leggings and a “Reem” t shirt my OH bought for me. Comfy is my favourite look for cold days spent indoors.

What have you been wearing to keep warm?

200 Follower Giveaway

To celebrate reaching 200 followers I’ve decided to have a giveaway! I wanted to choose prizes that I really like. All prizes were paid for and chosen by myself, I decided on:
Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro: Midnight Blue I chose this colour because I’m really loving dark colours at the moment. Also its the perfect shade to have a go at cosmic/galaxy style nails.
Elizabeth Arden Shine Pops Lipgloss : Peach Parfait I came across this when I went to buy the Eye shadow and I thought it looked like a LancĂ´me juicy tube. I had a look at the tester and the gloss sis almost colourless with a slight peachy tint. A nice natural gloss.
Elizabeth Arden Eye shadow Single Pumpkin: Aside from the seasonal name of this colour I decided to include this in my giveaway because I bought one for myself a few weeks ago and I’ve worn it almost every day. It’s not a bright colour its very natural and a light tan. In fact it blends really well with my skin tone. I have been wearing it on its own most days but for a more dramatic look I’ve been blending it with a dark grey on the crease for a Smokey eye look.
